Meet The 2025/2026 Advisory Board
Chairperson
Stacy R. McAfee
Stacy and her husband Terry moved to Riverton Pointe in 2023. Stacy has served as a senior executive for institutions of higher learning across Northern California and internationally. She served as a university president and in various vice president roles overseeing marketing, communication, external relations and campus operations for over two decades. She has served as a faculty member with many institutions of higher learning and has regularly served on boards and as a keynote speaker and panelist.
Stacy volunteers her time supporting various non-profits with a focus on building resilient families and demonstrating inclusive educational success. She is an American Leadership Forum Fellow and a graduate of various American Council of Education and Council of Independent Colleges leadership programs.
McAfee holds an Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership and Management from Drexel University. Her dissertation research provided insights on single head of household low-income women pursuing degrees in higher education and the unique challenges they face.
Treasurer
Joan Scanlon
​Joan was born and raised in New York City. She and her husband, Cliff, relocated to Riverton Pointe in October 2023 while their 3 adult children continue to reside in New York. Joan has always had a passion for volunteering and helping others. At the age of 18 Joan became a Certified EMT and served on the local volunteer fire and ambulance corp. During her tenure, she also served as Treasurer and helped the department obtain their 501C3 status. Joan knew she wanted to continue to serve her local community in whatever possible and found the Riverton Pointe Charitable Fund to be the perfect opportunity to fulfill the continuum of her desire.

Laurel McKenna
Laurel and her husband, TJ Schlesinger, moved to Riverton Pointe in October, 2022 from Rye, NH. Her professional career was in both the education and legal fields and she holds a BS in Physical Education and Health from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Massachusetts. Laurel spent the last 35 years working as a Paralegal Specialist in the areas of Contracts, Procurement, Privacy and Data Security/Cybersecurity. The last 15 years were spent with Liberty Mutual.
Prior to her legal roles, Laurel was a K-8 Physical Education and Health teacher and coached several sports on a voluntary basis within numerous town recreational organizations. She founded the first recreation department within Hampton Falls, NH and volunteered as a program director for after school sports for children ages 1-5 for many years.
Now in full retirement, Laurel has the time and energy to devote to continuing the important work of the Riverton Charitable Fund. She looks forward to supporting members of the Jasper County community in the areas of food insecurity, education and other community needs of seniors, veterans and other vulnerable community members.

Carolyn Kassel
Carolyn moved to Riverton Pointe in 2012 from Fredericksburg, VA. She worked in major law firms in Washington, DC for 37 years. She was a City of Hardeeville City Council member for 8 years. She became aware of the many needs in Jasper County and instrumental in the development of the Riverton Charitable Fund.

Jill MacKinnon
Jill retired from the University of Miami, School of Medicine in 2014 after 40 year service. She has a PhD in Epidemiology and Public Health and was the Director of the Statewide Florida Cancer Surveillance system. Jill and her husband Steve raised two children in Miami and are among the legacy residents at Riverton Pointe. She was born and raised in Miami. Moving from Miami to Hardeeville began a wonderful new chapter in our lives. This community is full of loving and caring people that continue to step up to help those in need, time and time again. Jill is honored to be a Founding Member of RCF Board.
Emeritus Founder
Carole Hurst
Carole is a Legacy resident 2007-2022 andFounding Member of Riverton Charitable Fund. She currently serving as advisor to RCF Board. She has extensive experience with non-profit fundraising encompassing a 40 year career in development supporting the Arts, Education, and Hospital systems. Her special interest is pro bono work with many community organizations especially those supporting women

Kathy Piontek
Kathy Piontek joins us from the Sapphire, North Carolina mountains. She was born and raised in Bucks County Pennsylvania. This is Kathy and her husband Carl’s second time residing in the South Carolina low country. They lived in the Charleston area for over 17 years while raising their son Jay. Kathy has 25 years in business consulting experience with IBM as a Vice President managing a large global consulting practice of 3,000 consultants. Kathy engaged with clients in many countries and industries to identify solutions to support and grow their organizations. Since retiring, Kathy has held several executive board roles with small and large non-profit. Kathy is an active mentor to several college students and executives to help them progress their career.

Deirdre Radtke​
With the support of family and friends I realized my dream and retired to the Low County of South Carolina in 2023. I began my career as a Registered Nurse working in the ICU. In the thirty-five plus years in health care in the New York area, I obtained my graduate degree, was a hospital administrator and a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator. Nursing has always been my passion. Throughout my career, I have been committed to advocating for the elderly, the under served and hospice patients with other health care professional. My nursing career has afforded me a greater understanding about the needs of others, respect and dignity for all and the opportunity to serve. In retirement, my goal is to "work hard, play hard". I wish to continue my commitment to working with others trying to improve the lives of people living in our community. While balancing my personal goals to spend time with family, friends, going to the beach, traveling and thoroughly enjoy my retirement.
Chairperson Emeritus
Theresa Renner
Theresa (founding member) comes to us from Connecticut. She was born and raised in Manchester, CT. Theresa and her husband, Art, raised their two children in Tolland, CT. Theresa spent her career as a partner in a small CPA firm. She accumulated many hours as a volunteer for the Tolland Education Foundation (founding member), Board of Governors of the CT Society of CPA’s, United Congregational Church, just to name a few. In retirement, it was only natural to become involved with the community.
