Letter of Support for Children's Cancer Partners of the Carolinas

September 22, 2025
Subject: Letter of Support for Children’s Cancer Partners of the Carolina's

I am writing to express my heartfelt support for a financial grant that would benefit Childrens
Cancer Partners of the Carolinas, an organization that has provided valuable assistance to my
family in Bluffton, South Carolina, during an incredibly challenging time.

On February 1, 2024, our son (four at the time) was diagnosed with high-risk B-cell ALL. The
initial month following his diagnosis was overwhelmingly difficult, leaving us feeling lost and
uncertain - his dad and I both “lived” in the hospital room at Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital
at MUSC in Charleston, with dad returning home only to gather personal items and clothing.
During this initial month inpatient, a childhood friend whose daughter was admitted for an issue
stemming from a different type of cancer, and who also lives in Bluffton, South Carolina, shared
how Children’s Cancer Partners of the Carolinas was supporting her family. This prompted me to
revisit our paperwork provided by a social worker, where I found their application for assistance.

The support we have received, particularly the food stipend, has been a lifeline. I had to
effectively put work on hold to care for him, and his dad has taken extended leaves at times
during setbacks. The financial support has significantly helped us keep our budget afloat during
numerous visits to the hospital and unexpected inpatient trips, some of which have lasted for
weeks, and one extended visit for over a month. This assistance has brought a much-needed
sense of peace of mind, especially as we were not prepared for such a long and arduous battle,
nor the original diagnosis. Additionally, the food stipend in particular (they also provide a
mileage reimbursement) allows us to “get out” of the room for a few minutes daily, getting a
much needed mental break from the stresses of being in the hospital; our little one often gets his
day brightened when we bring him something small back as well.

Beyond the financial aid, the kind and supportive staff at Children’s Cancer Partners of the
Carolinas have been a source of comfort and encouragement. While we would have loved to
attend some of the events they organize, our son's immunocompromised status has unfortunately
prevented us from doing so.

My family has never been one to readily utilize "charity," but we are profoundly grateful to have
connected with Children’s Cancer Partners of the Carolinas and to have their unwavering
support. Their dedication to families facing childhood cancer is truly remarkable, and a financial
grant would undoubtedly enable them to continue their vital work, bringing hope and practical
assistance to many more families like ours.

Thank you for considering this important grant to such a deserving organization.

Sincerely,

Mom of the pediatric cancer fighter
